WORK EXPERIENCE
Uganda August 2017
When I joined the site to work on Amina Kara's storage building construction project, the construction team (Inova Limited) were in the process of finishing the foundations. The type of foundations used were pad foundations. The plinth walls of the structure were based on strip foundations. My main role on site was to cross-check the dimensions of all components constructed with the technical working drawings to ensure the accuracy of the build. My other main task was to help set up the reinforcement for the ground beams and columns that would make up the internal framework of the building. I made myself available to help out wherever else that I would be needed. I was able to help out with some of the manual work such as ground leveling, soil compaction, and concrete cube testing.
This opportunity allowed me to see how a lot of theory I had covered on my course came to life especially in relation to concrete design. I also got an insight into project management methods such as the use of Gantt charts and Critical Path Methods. It was an experience that greatly developed my communication skills as well
